Cops blame Venus Williams for car crash that killed 78-year-old man days before start of Wimbledon

TENNIS star Venus Williams has been blamed by cops over a car crash which killed a 78-year-old man — just days before the start of Wimbledon.

Venus, 37, was trying to get through a junction when traffic backed up and she got stuck, blocking the road.

Her 4×4 was then side-swiped by another car crossing through the intersection in the opposite direction.

Jerome Barson, whose wife Linda, 68, was driving the other car, suffered head injuries and died two weeks after the June 9 smash.

Police reports seen by US website TMZ said five-time Wimbledon champ Venus “violated” Linda’s right of way in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.

Venus told police there was a jam and she had to slow to a crawl, leaving her car exposed.

There was no evidence of drugs or alcohol or that she was on her phone.

Her representatives did not comment last night.

Lawyer for Mr Barson’s family Michael Steinger said: “The whole family are distraught. He fought for his life for 14 days.”
