Coartem, Zentel, others among 72 unregistered drugs – FDA

Dozens of unregistered drugs on the Ghanaian market were imported into the country without approval of the Food and Drugs Authorization(FDA), reports say.

According to the FDA, between 2012 and 2013 per the Auditor General’s report, some drugs such as Coartem, Procold, Zentel and Amodiaquine Suspension among others were shipped without authorization.

This came to light, when officials of the FDA met the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament regarding their operations on Monday, August 7.

The CEO of the FDA, Delese Mimi Darko gave the assurance that her outfit will not relent on efforts to ensure citizens are safe.

She claimed, the FDA is scaling up its offices to help block unapproved routes normally used by the smugglers into the country.
