‘Chief predicts collapse of Ekumfi pineapple factory’

Paramount chief of the Edina Traditional Area, Nana Kwadwo Conduah XI is predicting the collapse of factories under the flagship One District One factory policy.

According to him, if goods produced from the factories are not consumed by the local people irrespective of how many is exported, it can generate enough revenue for long term investment.

Nana Kwadwo Conduah XI comments comes ahead of the grand opening of a pineapple processing factory in the Central region.

Government has finalized the necessary modalities for the smooth take off of the One District One Factory Project expected to begin at Ekumfi in the Central Region to help address the unemployment problem in the country.

The pineapple processing factory, when established, would create over 10,000 direct and indirect jobs for the people to boost the economic development of the area.

President Nana Akufo-Addo is expected to break ground for the commencement of the factory to curb the unemployment situation in the area.

But on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem Friday, Nana Kwadwo Conduah XI expressed skepticism about the viability of the Ekumfi pineapple factory project if there is no ready market for the products.

He said the effective implementation of the project will take Ghanaians out of poverty and make them economically sound.

The Edina Traditional Area chief cited how producers of local rice are suffering because the people are not ready to consume irrespective of its highly nutritious value.

This notwithstanding, Nana Kwadwo Conduah XI said he is ready to support government should it decide to establish a factory in his area to improve the living conditions of Ghanaians.
