Car snatchers targeting DV, DP cars – Polic

targeting DV, DP cars – PoliceThe Ghana Police has bemoaned the surge in car snatching activities in the capital city and is asking the general public to be cautious. In an alert issued and copied to citifmonline.com, the service said the criminals mostly target cars with DV and DP number plates.

“The Police have noted that, though these criminals target both private and commercial vehicles, they mostly succeed in snatching vehicles with trade license plates (DP and DV) and taxi cabs,” a statement from the Accra Regional Police command said.

According to them, such activities are rampant in areas such as East Legon, Dansoman, Mile 7, Pokuase, Adentan, Sakumono, and Spintex.

The statement signed by Public Relations Officer of the Accra Regional Police Command, ASP Effia Tenge, thus urged the motoring public to be cautious in such areas “and take the necessary steps to prevent possible attacks and theft of their vehicles.”

She said the criminals carry out such nefarious act by “trailing and snatching targeted vehicles at the entrances of proposed destinations; hiring and snatching of commercial vehicle (taxi cab) by two or three persons in the course of the journey; and during a test drive of an interested vehicle by a potential buyer.”

Though she added that the Police are doing all the can to track down the culprits, she urged drivers to adopt the following safety measures:

• The use of automobile tracking devices.

• Extra care is required when test driving with unknown potential buyers, especially, vehicles with trade license plates.

• Cross check necessary documents from relevant authorities before purchasing a vehicle.

• Seek Police assistance when driving home late and too outlandish areas.

• Register imported vehicles on time and avoid using trade license plates at night.

• Report suspicious character to the Police.
