British Grand Prix: Lewis Hamilton sticks two fingers up to fans, bosses and fellow drivers by insisting he was RIGHT to snub the London parade

LEWIS HAMILTON has stuck two fingers up to fans, bosses and fellow drivers by insisting he was RIGHT to snub the London parade.

And the Brit has brazenly suggested he would do it all again.

Hamilton refused to apologise for his decision to dodge the chance to headline Wednesday’s free demonstration.

Instead, the Mercedes driver spent two days on the party island of Mykonos with pals and supermodel Winnie Harlow, 22,  — and says he has no regrets about doing so.

Hamilton was quizzed as to why he was the ONLY current F1 driver not to attend the £4.5million showpiece in Trafalgar Square and how he felt to hear his name was booed for not being there.

Ahead of this weekend’s British Grand Prix, he said: “Everyone had the right to make a decision.

“I felt it’s been a pretty intense season so far and I felt it’s the best way to prepare for this weekend.

“The season is the most important thing for me. I love  this race and I don’t feel  the London event plays any role in how important this weekend is.

“Every season for the last 10 years, this race has been incredible.

“You get people who have saved up so much to come to this  every year and I think you will see how much I appreciate and respect that.”

The 32-year-old was then asked if  partying was the best way to prepare.

Hamilton added: “I feel I’ve answered as much as I want to. I feel great  being the best prepared I can be.

“Really now my sole focus is  to put in every bit of energy I have. I’ve received incredible love from the fans every year I’ve been here and I look forward to seeing them.”

Hamilton rubbished talk that his decision to miss the London show was due to an  image rights row.

And he blasted a  question about hearing his Mercedes boss Toto Wolff had joined in Sebastian Vettel’s birthday party as ‘the dumbest question I’ve had so far’.  However Hamilton was blasted by his fellow drivers for missing the London showpiece.

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, 19, admitted he would not dare miss a similar event in his native Holland.

He said: “If I had tried to have done that, I think they would have shot me! It was a great event and a lot of people turned up.”

But Vettel, who leads the championship by 20 points, says he ‘didn’t care’ about Hamilton’s no-show.

Instead, he has his eye on the golden Royal Automotive Club trophy.

He said: “The bigger motivation for me is to win here — the home of racing.

“There is a lot of history for racing in this country.

“If you win here, you get the trophy.”

Vettel, 30, will   road-test the new ‘shield’ head  protector in practice at  Silverstone today.

F1 chiefs are improving cockpit safety following the tragic death of French racer Jules Bianchi, 25, in 2015 after an horrific crash.

Ferrari’s Vettel will be the first to trial the see-through screen.

The German  said: “I’ve only seen it on the computer,  I’ll check it out.”
