The boys  were refused entry to the UK earlier this year as they do not have permanent visas.

Patrick has had to  take leave from his NHS job with the Royal Orthopaedic hospital, Birmingham, and returned to the US with the boys while Gillian and biological son Philip, nine, stay here.

Gillian said: “I’ve never been apart from my kids for more than three days before. I’m  devastated.

“I just want my family to be back together again. I can’t bear it.”
