Birmingham boss Harry Redknapp to battle former club QPR for Aberdeen star Kenny McLean

HARRY REDKNAPP faces a battle from old club QPR to sign Scot Kenny McLean.

Aberdeen ace McLean, 25, looked set to join Sunderland until Dons boss Derek McInnes pulled out of a move himself to the Stadium of Light.

And while the Black Cats remain interested along with Rangers, SunSport understands QPR and Birmingham are in the box seat to sign the midfielder.

McLean impressed for Aberdeen last term, making 53 appearances in all competitions as McInnes’ side finished second in the Scottish Premiership.

The ex-St Mirren star, who earned his only cap for Scotland against the Czech Republic in March last year, will fetch a few of around £750k.

The Birmingham boss is also set to submit a £5million bid for Barnsley captain Marc Roberts.

Their interest in the defender comes after John Terry snubbed the Championship side’s audacious bid to bring him to St Andrew’s.

Redknapp is willing to meet Barnsley’s asking price for their star man and is set offer him better terms than Burnley, who are also keen on a move.

Terry is set to opt for a move to Aston Villa over Birmingham as he feels promotion at Villa Park is more achievable.

Speaking about his offer for Terry earlier this month, Redknapp said: “I’d love to have him at the club. He’s a fantastic captain and great leader.

“We’ve made him a good offer. It’s up to John now, but we would love to have him at Birmingham.

“I had a chat with him and said to him come in, have a year or two and who knows what he wants to do in the future?”
