Assemblymen want Kojo Bonsu probed

kojo bonsuSome members of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly are demanding a probe into the 3-year stewardship of former mayor Kojo Bonsu after his resignation.

They are accusing Kojo Bonsu of financial impropriety in the Rattray Park, management of the old Kejetia terminal among others.

Speaking at a press conference, the members who had earlier called for his dismissal say they are planning to petition the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to investigate him.

It is common knowledge that some assembly members were against Mr. Bonsu creating challenges for the administration of the Kumasi Metropolis through the assembly which has been without a presiding member for sometime now.

The Assembly members sang songs praising Otumfour and the Kumasi Traditional Council for championing a cause for the removal of the Kumasi Mayor.

Maxwell Ofosu Boakye Assembly Member for Abusuakruwa electoral area said regarding the Kumasi Academy Hall which has been built up to the lintel level Mr Bonsu raised a certificate and effected payment instead of waiting for it to be finished.

He said there are questions he needs to answer and the Assembly’s books which need to be balanced.

However, spokesperson for Kojo Bonsu Sammy Gyamfi told Joy News, they are surprised all these issues are coming up now. He assured that in due time the former Mayor will respond to all the allegations.

Earlier Wednesday, the Kumasi Traditional Council had expressed satisfaction about the resignation of the Mr Bonsu but demanded a formal apology from him.

The Ankobiahene of the Asantehene, Baffuor Kwame Kusi said Kojo Bonsu’s resignation does not settle the impasse between him and the chiefs.

Kojo Bonsu resigned on Tuesday after several calls by the traditional authorities for his removal.

Mr. Bonsu was said to have written a letter to the Local Government minister questioning the locus of the Chief of Amoaman, Nana Agyenim Boateng on a committee set up to supervise the construction of the Kejetia Market Project.

This action compounded with other acts of disrespect allegedly shown by the former Mayor triggered the chiefs’ call for his removal.
