Acting National Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) is questioning the rationale behind the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) claim that its members are being attacked following their defeat in the December 7 polls.

According to Freddie Blay, such claims by the NDC National Executives are ‘fabricated just to appease their angry supporters’.

The NPP acting chairman made the comment while reacting to the NDC‘s decision to retaliate alleged attacks by NPP supporters on its members.

At a press conference to raise their concerns, the NDC Chairman, Kofi Portuphy, General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia and many of the party bigwigs wore red scarfs to express their anger.

Mr. Portuphy maintained that, Kofi Portuphy said the seizures and attacks by persons linked to the opposition New Patriotic Party in the wake of the change in government are a “veritable threat to Ghana’s security.”

But Freddie Blay on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Monday expressed shock at the comments made by the NDC Chairman.

He indicated that, the press conference to react to the ‘non-existent attacks’ was just a panic reaction to reconnect with their angry supporters.

“All those allegation are a figment of their imagination; were the supposed NPP members going to the houses of NDC supporters to attacks them? I think it [press conference] was a storm in a tea cup” he stated.

The NPP acting chairman said when he saw the NDC executives on television wearing the red scarfs, “I thought they were going on strike”
“I was surprised, I thought they [Asiedu Nketia, Portuphy] were workers going on strike but it is understandable because it’s a way to reconnect with their supporters who are angry at them” he scoffed.

Conceding that there were a few excesses, Freddie Blay said the NPP quickly called their supporters to order to avert any pandemonium.
