Asawase jam stampede victims buried

deadoneEight out of the nine victims who died in a stampede during an Eid party at Asawase in the Ashanti region have been buried.

The eight, identified as indigenes of Asawase, have since been buried in accordance with Islamic tradition. The last victim is yet to be identified so has been sent back to the morgue.

The incident at the Asawase Community centre occurred after a false alarm that a group of people were going to instigate a fight at the party.
This led to the partygoers trying to escape through the only exit, leading to a stampede and resulted in several deaths injuries.

The autopsy report revealed that the nine died of suffocation, Luv FM’s Erastus Asare Donkor who is following the story disclosed.

Six others, according to him, are in stable condition at the Manhyia government hospital.

Present to witness the burial rites were the Ashanti regional Minister, John Alexander Ackon, Member of Parliament for Asawase, Muntaka Mubarak, Municipal Chief Executive, Nurudeen Amedan, families of the deceased and representatives of political parties.
