Another cell break in Ofankor, five suspects escape

Police are on a manhunt for five suspected criminals who escaped from Police custody at the Ofankor Police Station in Accra.

The five were being held for various criminal offences like armed robbery and stealing at the Police cells.

The suspects managed to escape through the ceiling of the toilet within the facility, Police sources say.

The Deputy Public Relations Officer, of the Accra Regional Police Command Inspector Kwabena Danso told Accra-based Citi FM that Policemen have intensified their search for the re-arrest of the suspected criminals, calling on the public to divulge information leading to the whereabouts of the fugitives.

“ I can confirm to you that five prisoners have escaped from police cell at Ofankor. They managed to create a hole through the ceiling and escaped from custody. There is one armed robbery remand prisoner and the rest of the four were involved in stealing.”

“We’ve intensified police patrols and have beefed up our intelligence gathering mechanism so as to yield results to recapture them,” he said.

A similar incident was recorded at Denu in the Ketu South District  in the Volta Region years ago, where five suspects escaped from Police cell, but were later recaptured and arraigned.
