Animal Law Scholarship at RSPCA in Australia, 2017 Scholarship Positions 2017 2018












RSPCA Australia is pleased to announce the opening of the Sybil Emslie Animal Law Scholarship. This scholarship is available to the undergraduate law student or lawyer.

The aim of this scholarship is to support law student or lawyer who has a strong academic record and a commitment to the practice of animal law through active and substantial engagement with animal law and animal protection organisations and initiatives.

RSPCA Australia (Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) is an Australian peak organisation established in 1981 to promote animal welfare. Each state and territory of Australia have an RSPCA organisation that predates and is affiliated with RSPCA Australia.

Course Level: This scholarship is available for the undergraduate law degree, higher research degree or lawyer.

Study Subject:  This scholarship is awarded in the field of animal law.

Scholarship Award: This scholarship will cover the following:

  • The recipient will receive an award of $1,000 and a certificate to recognize the award from RSPCA Australia and the Sybil Emslie Animal Law Scholarship Fund.

Numbers of Scholarships: Not Known.

Eligibility: Applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • Be either enrolled in an undergraduate law degree, or enrolled or aspiring to enrol in a higher research degree within an Australian law school, or be a practising lawyer within an Australian jurisdiction.
  • Demonstrate their commitment to the practice of animal law through active and substantial engagement with animal law and animal protection organisations and initiatives.
  • Demonstrate how their research or practising activity will benefit the development and application of the animal law and animal protection more broadly.

Nationality: Australian applicants are eligible for this scholarship.

College Admission Requirement

Entrance Requirement: Applicants must be either enrolled in an undergraduate law degree, or enrolled or aspiring to enrol in a higher research degree within an Australian law school, or be a practising lawyer within an Australian jurisdiction.

  • A 500-word statement.
  • The statement must outline:
  • Their commitment to animal law including their active and substantial engagement with animal law and animal protection organisations and initiatives.
  • How their research or practising activity benefits the development and application of the animal law and animal protection more broadly.

Application Deadline: The application deadline is August 4, 2017.
