Akufo-Addo delegation to meet protesters over Savelugu crisis

President Akufo-Addo has sent a government delegation up-north to address the concerns of some protesters of the governing New Patriotic Party’s(NPP) in Savelugu fighting against the appointment of the District Chief Executive of the area.

Violence erupted in Savelugu as disgruntled youth backed by constituency executives decided last week to close down the assembly office, despite the presence of armed soldiers who escorted and inducted the Municipal Chief Executive, Hajia Aishetu Seidu into office.

It was her first time in office two months after her overwhelmed endorsement. She was blocked by the youth from gaining access after they intensified protest for a replacement.

Hajia Aishatu Seidu officially took over from the municipal coordinating director on Wednesday, June 14 in a short ceremony under heightened security.

The regional Security Council on Wednesday, in a show of force sanctioned the deployment of dozen of riot gears wearing soldiers to force the MCE into her office to fully assume duty as head of the municipal assembly.

The action of the council followed a third demonstration staged by the youth against the MCE after initial twice protests failed to intimidate assembly members to reject her.

Kasapa FM sources say the delegation is due to arrive at the Tamale Airport shortly and subsequently proceed to Savelugu to carry out the assignment by the President in his intervention to the political crisis in that region.

Reports indicate that protesters have massed up at the disability centre, directly opposite the Savelugu Magistrate court and shows no signs of backing down their protests now.
