3 Bailed after arrest for illegal weapons possession

court lawThree men who were arrested by the police for possession of suspected unregistered weapons and ammunition in Potor near Kintampo in the Brong Ahafo region have been grated bail.

The three were arrested a week ago after a police retrived 200 Pieces of AK 47 ammunitions, two AK47 rifle following a raid at their homes.

They were charged with unlawful possession of arms.

The suspects Kande Bawa, 48, Samed Rauf, 18, and Sumalia Gyaboni 50, appeared before a magistrate court in Sunyani on Friday where they were given bail of GH¢19,000 each.

The Brong Ahafo Regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Christopher Tawiah, told Citi News that the suspects will be released once they meet the conditions of their bail.

“Those people who were charged for unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition were taken to court and the court bailed them today but they have to satisfy some conditions first. Somebody will have to stand surety for them and the sum of GH¢19,000 paid for each of them,” he said.

“If they are able to justify and fulfill it, the police will allow them their freedom.”

He stated that the weapons that had been seized in the raid were in police custody and would no longer pose any danger to the public

“Those items have been seized by the police and they are in our custody. It won’t cause or pose any problems at all.”

ASP Christopher Tawiah added that the police have also “deposited a copy of the docket for the state attorney to look at and advise.”
