2016 polls: Presidential candidates to receive Police guards July 1

police 4The Ghana Police Service will from tomorrow, Friday July 1, begin the deployment of Personal Police security detail to flagbearers of the various political parties, Director of Public Affairs of the Police Service Superintendent Cephas Arthur has said.

The security arrangement was triggered by the invitation of the three ex-South African police officers by the NPP to train the security detail of their flagbearer Nana Akufo-Addo.

The three were subsequently deported after they were arrested by the BNI and charged with conspiracy to commit crime and unlawful training.

Speaking to Joy FM Thursday, Superintendent Cephas Arthur said the selected officers have completed their training and are ready for deployment.

“Four security personnel will be assigned to each flagbearer and two to each running mate respectively”.

The Police had earlier expressed their readiness to provide protection for presidential candidates and their running mates during the November 7, general election.
